Crew Report:


35 Squadron ORB: 10 aircraft took off in the late afternoon to bomb the Nippe’s marshalling yards, Cologne.  Marking and bombing were concentrated and several large explosions were observed.

After take off, the port outer engine of aircraft “A” failed so explosives were jettisoned in the sea.

Aircraft “S” captained by P/O Kenyon crashed after take off and all crew were killed.


Bomber Command:

Aircraft Used: 97 Lancasters and 5 Mosquitos of Nos 1 and 8 Groups.

Losses:  5 Lancasters were lost and 2 more crashed in England.

Summary:  The Oboe marking and the resultant bombing were extremely accurate. The railway tracks were severely damaged and an ammunition train blown up. The nearby Butzweilerhof airfield was also damaged.
