Crew Report:


35 Squadron  ORB: 7 aircraft set out shortly after noon to bomb Wanne-Eickel. Heavy flak was encountered and a smoke screen hampered the attackers. 1 aircraft went on to bomb Bochum (secondary target).

2 aircraft, captained by F/L PC Granger and F/O D Campbell failed to return.


Bomber Command:

Aircraft Used: 412 aircraft – 315 Halifaxes, 75 Lancasters, 22 Mosquitos – of Nos 4, 6 and 8 Groups attacked synthetic oil plants at Dortmund, Scholven/Buer and Wanne-Eickel.

Losses: 7 aircraft were lost – 3 Lancasters and 1 Halifax from the Wanne-Eickel raid and 2 Halifaxes and 1 Lancaster from the Scholven raid.

Summary: The Dortmund raid was particularly successful, but smoke-screens prevented observation of results at the other targets.
